Amazing swimrun in the Stockholm archipelago!
On 20 July 2024, Sharks Sports Club organised a SwimRun promotional event, as part of the Water Sport Festival Erasmus+ funded project.
The event consisted of a swimrun training and was addressed to runners, swimmers, triathletes and other athletes who wanted to experience swimrunning Overall, 14 participants took part in the event. In consideration of the good climate conditions, i.e. sunny and mild water temperatures, between 14C (in the open sea) and 20C (in inland waters) degrees, the event took place in the outskirts of the Swedish capital, within the national natural reserve of Stendörren, at the edge of the Stockholm archipelago.
Overall, the participants had the possibility to complete a route of about 15km, consisting of 30 swimming (the shortest of about 25m and the longest of about 500m) and 32 running legs. The promotional event accompanied the participants through the natural reserve, including a protected forest and unexplored rocky islands, and reached the very edge of the open sea, offering hence breathtaking views.
The group consisted of experienced swimrunners as well as athletes new to the discipline, but properly trained. All of them wore the necessary equipment, such as a neoprene wetsuit, neoprene hat (sponsored by the project), paddles, shoes, pull buoy, etc.
At the end of the event, the participants celebrated the success of the promotional event with a social lunch, sponsored by the project.
This promotional event contributed to raise awareness, on one hand of a water-sport discipline that brings athletes closer to the nature, allowing them to understand the importance of environmental protection; and, on the other hand, of the aim of the EC funded Erasmus+ project, its goals and opportunities.
